Governance Guidelines for Environmental Sustainability for NSO Leadership
For NSOs, environmental sustainability is not only about delivering environmental education or organising community action. It is also about ensuring that the way we govern, lead and operate our organizations reflects the values we promote. Decisions related to strategy, resource allocation, procurement, travel, events, infrastructure and everyday operations all have environmental impacts. These Guidelines help National Scout Organizations (NSOs) embed environmental sustainability in governance, strategy, management and accountability. They support Boards, senior leaders, regions, local groups, event organisers and property managers in setting priorities, assigning responsibility, resourcing delivery and reviewing progress. By strengthening environmental sustainability in their own operations, NSOs can lead by example, empower young people through meaningful learning opportunities and demonstrate that Scouting's commitment to protecting the environment is reflected not only in what we teach, but also in how we act.
