The Nutrition Challenge is an educational resource from World Scouting’s HealthAllies initiative, designed to help young people build healthier lifestyles by strengthening their knowledge, attitudes, and practical skills related to nutrition, healthy habits, and overall wellbeing. It forms part of the Healthy Lifestyles learning path within HealthAllies.

Through age-appropriate and hands-on activities, young people explore topics such as balanced diets, essential nutrients, hydration, joyful movement, sleep, hygiene, and healthy relationships with food. The challenge encourages participants to reflect on how everyday choices influence their physical and mental wellbeing and equips them to make informed, sustainable choices for themselves.

Following HealthAllies’ Explore, Expand, Encourage learning journey, participants begin by assessing their own lifestyles, develop healthier habits through practical activities, and then apply their learning through community engagement projects that encourage healthier choices among their peers, families, Scout groups, and communities.

The resource includes learning objectives across cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioural competencies, practical activities, guidance for adult leaders and facilitators, self-assessment and reflection tools, and opportunities for community action. By completing the challenge, young people develop the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills to care for their own wellbeing while contributing to healthier and more resilient communities.

The Nutrition Challenge was adapted by World Scouting in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) from the Nutrition Challenge developed through FAO’s Youth and United Nations Global Alliance (YUNGA), with FAO providing financial contribution and technical guidance.
