The Mind Builders Challenge is an educational resource from World Scouting’s HealthAllies initiative, designed to support young people aged 7 and above in strengthening their mental health and emotional wellbeing. Based on the PERMA model of positive psychology, the challenge guides young people through five building blocks of wellbeing: Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment.

Through age-appropriate, experiential activities, self-assessments, reflection, and community engagement, young people develop practical skills to understand and express emotions, build resilience, strengthen supportive relationships, discover purpose, set meaningful goals, and seek help when needed. The learning journey follows HealthAllies’ Explore, Expand, Encourage approach, moving participants from personal awareness and skill-building to taking action that promotes mental wellbeing in their communities.

The resource includes learning objectives for different age groups, practical activities for each PERMA building block, guidance for adult leaders and facilitators, community engagement project ideas, and reflection and evaluation tools. By completing the challenge, young people are empowered not only to care for their own mental wellbeing, but also to become advocates for healthier, more supportive and inclusive communities.

The Mind Builders Challenge was developed by World Scouting, with the financial contribution and technical guidance of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and its Youth and United Nations Global Alliance (YUNGA) initiative.
